We’re rounding out our VA Spirits Month Recipe with a classic: The Sazerac. The Sazerac is widely regarded as the oldest known American cocktail, and seeing as Virginia is America’s oldest state–we thought it was a good fit for this project. Sazeracs are usually made with rye whiskey, but when we laid our eyes on Lost Whiskey’s High Rye Bourbon, we knew it would be just right.

You may not know it, but 2020 is a banner year for Virginia Spirits. It commemorates 400 years of distilling in Virginia. No, that’s not a typo. The first recorded distillery was founded in 1620 in Southampton, Virginia. George Thorpe stated in a letter to The Virginia Company that he made a “goode drinke of Indian corne,” aka WHISKEY! Marshall’s Field & Main Restaurant has been nominated for a RAMMY by The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington as a finalist in the Best Wine Program category. On Monday, June 1, Virginia ABC stores will offer a complimentary 50ml of Virginia Distillery Company’s new American Single Malt Courage & Conviction with a purchase of $25 or more in spirits or wines, while supplies last. A few days following the promotion, Virginia Distillery Company will host a virtual tasting of Courage & Conviction on Facebook Live on Wednesday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m. to give consumers the opportunity to learn more about the whisky and the production process.
