Happy 2020, foodies! With this epic events list, maybe hold off on your New Year Diet until February. There are way too many events to enjoy this month, like a killer slider competition, multiple beer fests, and National Glazed Donut Day! (Yep, we’re marking our calendars.) So start this new decade off right, and dive right into these awesome events.

Norfolk may be known for the Navy, but it’s so much bigger than that, y’all. In the past few years, Norfolk has truly become a foodie destination, with tons of top-notch places to get your local eats on. Sometimes you just have to go for the sweet stuff, and brownies can be a little slice of heaven. The good news? Harrisonburg-based company Red Root & Co produces plant-based, small batch oxymels, shrubs, tonics, syrups, and bitters in the herbalist tradition. Their Hops & Citrus Bitters is a finalist in the 2021 Good Food Awards, which are a key part of the Good Food Foundation’s mission to highlight the importance of social and environmental responsibility in food production, in addition to having superior flavor and craftsmanship.

Fall is in full swing, and you know what that means – it’s the season for pumpkin beers! Breweries across the state are rolling out their annual autumnal brews, made with seasonal spices and farm-fresh ingredients. From traditional Oktoberfests straight out of Munich to creative takes on sweet pumpkin ales, there’s a huge range of craft beers to capture your favorite flavors of the season.

Hey, foodies! As you may have heard, Governor Northam announced plans to begin slowly reopening businesses starting May 15th. Virginia’s Phase 1 plan includes restaurants (yay!) except for those in Northern Virginia. The Coronavirus is serious business, so there will, understandably, be a lot of changes to your favorite spots to dine. Eating out might feel a little different so we wanted to share a guide for what you can expect.
