Ironclad Distillery Co. Announces Release of Ironclad Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Coffee Barrels

In a special collaboration with Vessel Craft Coffee of Norfolk, Virginia, the Newport News distillery releases the first of three cask finished bourbon whiskeys.

Ironclad Distillery Co. is proud to announce the release of its first new product since the launch of its flagship bourbon: Ironclad Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Coffee Barrels.

The Coffee Barrel Finished Bourbon is the first of three cask finished whiskeys from Ironclad Distillery Co. Distilled from their signature four-grain mash bill (corn, wheat, rye, malted barley), it is then finished for three months in their own used Missouri white oak barrels that flavored coffee beans from Vessel Craft Coffee in Norfolk, Virginia. The new release is bottled at cask strength: 125 proof.

“Where Vessel Craft Coffee’s espresso beans imparted their strong chocolate notes to the barrel, our aged bourbon brought its salted caramel and peppery flavors resulting in a unique, earthy blend,” says Owen King, head distiller at Ironclad. “There’s a burst of rich coffee sweetness and aromatic spice that dominates this whiskey.”

Ironclad Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Coffee Barrels will be released in limited quantities only at the downtown Newport News distillery on June 23. To celebrate, the distillery’s Tasting Room will feature a pop-up Vessel Craft Coffee Shop, as well as offer two special cocktails: the “Iron Press” and the “Cold Cannon,” both mixed with Ironclad Bourbon Whiskey and Vessel Craft’s Cold Brew.

Dates are to be determined for the release of the rest of the cask finished collaboration series, including a Maple Syrup Barrel Finished Bourbon in collaboration with Sweeter Creations Sugarhouse of Waddington, New York, and a Hot Southern Honey Barrel Finished Bourbon in collaboration with Ames Hot Southern Honey of Richmond, Virginia.

Ironclad Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Coffee Barrels, 62.5% ABV, single barrel bourbon whiskey distilled from Virginia corn, wheat and rye, along with malted barley, 375mL, SRP $55.99. While supplies last!
