VAfoodie Takes to the Road for Virginia Wine Month

October is Virginia Wine Month, and the grapes are ripe for picking!

The VAfoodie crew grabbed our cameras and hit the road, visiting some of Virginia’s best wine and foodie spots. If you missed the story in our feed, you can check out our discoveries here, and take full advantage of a month of events at Virginia vineyards, wineries and restaurants. 

Early Mountain Winery brings some of Virginia’s finest foods and drinks together in one beautiful spot. Explore their stunning property, taste some great Virginia wines, and sample local delicacies from their Marketplace.

Originally founded in 1873, Monticello Wine Company was shut down during Prohibition. Fortunately for us, it was resurrected nearly a century and a half from its founding. Sourcing their fruit from local Virginia producers, Monticello takes pride in making great quality wines in small batches carefully produced.

We took a little detour to try out this micro café. The Store turned out to be the epitome of farm-to-fork. We enjoyed a glass of Virginia’s own Teavine, a green tea and honey infused white wine, while relishing a great lunch made from all local ingredients. While we sat enjoying our meal, farmers and producers bustled in and out of the café. This place is a foodie dream. Don’t forget to grab a cup of @sharkmountaincoffee there as well.

Charlottesville is home to so many great farm-to-table restaurants, and the vibe at Oakhart Social couldn’t be any cooler, or the food any more southern. The high point of this stop: Virginia’s own @shootingpointoysters wood-fired with bacon fat, citrus gremolata, & crumb. This place also knows how to pour a great drink. They feature many great Virginia wines including Charlottesville’s own @Blenheimvineyards.

Pack a lunch and plan to spend the day enjoying live music at Twin Oaks Tavern Winery. Experience their homemade wines, while taking in a picturesque mountain view from the deck. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy all the beauty of fall and relax with a bottle of wine.

Chateau Morrisette is one of Virginia’s oldest and largest wineries. Ensconced in old world charm, they’re located high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where views are breathtaking. Chateau Morrisette serves up delicious meals with ingredients straight from their gardens and other local producers.

Sitting at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, King Family Vineyard produces their large variety of wine right on their grounds. There’s a lot to do and see this breathtaking, family-owned and operated vineyard. Have a glass of wine while watching a live polo match, or simply enjoy a walk around their sprawling, pristine property.

We wrapped things up in our own backyard. Bluemont Vineyard is where wine and agriculture combine. We took an evening pause to savor a glass of estate grown Merlot and enjoy the amazing panoramic mountain views at 951 feet. Bluemont Vineyard is a must-see for any wine and landscape lover.
