About Crozet, Virginia

Somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, the small town of Crozet is home to a population of just about 8000 people. It was initially founded as a railroad town in 1870 and named after Claudius Crozet, an engineer who oversaw the construction of the mountain tunnels. Much of its history can be seen in locations like the Crozet train depot, Claudius Crozet Park, and the Blue Ridge tunnel. The town also serves as a popular suburb for those working in nearby Charlottesville, providing easy access to recreation with its stunning mountain views. Thanks to the natural atmosphere, the town is home to a beautiful outdoor lifestyle for local businesses, restaurants, and wineries.

Stinson Vineyards is just down the road from Grace Estate Winery, and it’s a great spot to visit if you find yourself around Crozet! The vineyard dates back to the 1970s, but wine production started in 2010. This vineyard grows delicacies from Petite Verdot, Petite Manseng, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, etc. When visiting the Stinson vineyard, the top 3 wine recommendations are often the Sugar Hollow white, the Chardonnay, and the Meritage. They even have an inn onsite, so it’s a great place to stop for an overnight visit as it is peaceful and serene with the mountain view.

Knights Gambit Vineyard

Knights Gambit Vineyard is a 15-minute drive from Crozet, but it’s worth the trip. They produced their first vintage in 2012 and opened the doors to their Tasting Room in 2016. They currently have Meritage, Petit Verdot, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Franc, Rosé, and Chardonnay under the Knight’s Gambit label.

Veritas Vineyard & Winery

Just outside Crozet, Virginia, an 18-minute drive will take you to Veritas Winery & Vineyard. This family vineyard has been producing wine for over 20 years and grows eleven different varieties of grapes. It is a remarkable place — from the fine-bred horses to its large vineyard and amazing wine. Veritas is the perfect spot for having a food and wine experience side-by-side. We went for a multi-course wine dinner — and the pairings were amazing. They are also very accommodating about dietary restrictions, so it’s a great place no matter what you enjoy!
