We Went to Susie’s Delicatessen Twice — And We’re Already Planning a Third Trip

Last Updated on January 7, 2026 by Liz Thomson

If you’re looking for a Richmond spot with cozy vibes and some seriously creative sandwiches, Susie’s Delicatessen in the Fan deserves a place on your list. We’ve now visited twice — first for dinner, and then again once they launched their new seven-day-a-week lunch service — and both visits left us full, happy, and ready to come back again.

What We Ordered

On our first trip, we ordered the trio of dips with toast, potato latkes, the Ronnie sandwich with fries, a glass of wine, and an N/A beer.

Creamy hummus with toasted baguette slices and flavorful dips on a white plate. Perfect for appetize.

The trio of dips was a great shareable starter, and yes… we absolutely used the fries to scoop up the last of them. The hummus was our favorite of the three.

Crispy potato pancakes with sour cream and microgreens on a white plate.

The potato latkes were the standout star — perfectly crispy on the outside, tender inside, and nicely seasoned. Total comfort-food magic.

Classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries and pickle on a plate.

The Ronnie is a sub roll filled with sautéed broccoli rabe, green beans, mozzarella, white bean spread, and lemon Aioli. It was a little bit spicy, which I loved, and overall, it had a really delicious flavor.

We loved that they had an extensive drink menu, including non alcoholic options!

On our second visit, this time for lunch, we ordered:

  • The Ronnie with fries (Clearly, we had to get this again)
    • The Ronnie is a sub roll filled with sautéed broccoli rabe, green beans, mozzarella, white bean spread, and lemon Aioli. It was a little bit spicy which I loved and overall, it had a really delicious flavor.
Grilled fish sandwich with fries, green sauce, and lemon wedge on a white plate.
  • The Philip with fries
    • The Philip is roasted cauliflower with pistachio pesto, whipped feta, and caramelized onions. I think this was my favorite of the two but honestly, it was a close race.
Delicious veggie burger with fresh lettuce and crispy fries on a black outdoor table.

Honestly, two sandwiches and fries left us stuffed. (No complaints!)

The Vibe

Between the friendly service, funky vibes, and creative sandwich menu, Susie’s has that perfect neighborhood-spot feel. I actually loved the interior aesthetics so much that I looked up who was behind it. Richmond designer Mariya Boykova is the mastermind behind the funky space! With lunch now available seven days a week, it’s a great option when you’re craving something filling, flavorful, and a little different from the usual sandwich lineup.

We’ll definitely be back soon. ❤️
