Julio’s Bagels: The Newest Bagel Shop in Richmond
Whenever I hear about a new bagel shop opening in Richmond, I have to check it out. (We need to keep our Best Bagels in Virginia list up to date!) So when I saw that Julio’s Bagels had opened its doors on Brookland Park Boulevard, I had to visit ASAP. A cozy little shop serving naturally leavened, hand-crafted bagels? Count me in. I stopped in for breakfast recently, and let me just say — this place is already delivering the goods.

The Menu
Their bagels are naturally leavened, so you can expect a chewy exterior and a soft and chewy inside. We ordered two bagels:

First up: a salt bagel with herby cream cheese and sliced cucumbers. My bagel was a liiiiittle burned on one side, but I didn’t mind. (They literally just opened, so a few kinks are to be expected.) But I still ate every bite. And let me tell you — if you’re a dill lover, this herby cream cheese will blow you away. It was packed with flavor, super soft, and creamier than most spreads I’ve had on a bagel. Paired with the crunchy cucumbers, it was delicious.

Next, we went classic: an everything bagel with plain cream cheese. Simple, sure — but when the bagel itself is this good, you don’t need much else. The outside had just the right amount of crisp, while the inside was light and beautifully chewy. The everything seasoning was perfectly balanced, not too salty, not too heavy. (And I liked that it was seasoned on the top and bottom.)
Along with the bagels, Julio’s serves coffee from Recluse Roasting Project. So whether you need a quick caffeine fix or a full breakfast moment, they’ve got you covered.

The Shop
Julio’s is a small shop, but it’s very cute. There are a few counter seats along the front windows if you want to stay and enjoy your bagel with a view of Brookland Park Boulevard. The staff was incredibly friendly and happy to chat about the menu. It’s casual, cozy, and very Richmond. (It’s right down the block from Ruby Scoops!)
As for prices, they’re pretty reasonable and comparable to other bagel places around Richmond.
