In conjunction with the 156th anniversary month of the Battle of the Ironclads, the Newport News craft bourbon distillery will celebrate the grand opening of its new Tasting Room.
Ironclad Distillery Co. announces the Grand Opening of its new Tasting Room at 124 23rd Street in downtown Newport News, kicking off Saturday, March 31st from noon to 5pm, in the same month that marks the 156th anniversary of its namesake – the Battle of the Ironclads.
The craft bourbon distillery will celebrate its grand opening with a day of festivities and specials. Patrons will enjoy the opportunity to tour the distillery, plus taste and purchase bottles of their spirits as well as branded merchandise and bourbon-related goods from their new distillery store.
“Nothing pairs better with a glass of bourbon than a good story. From our historic building, to our salvaged tasting bar, to the gallery wall curated by The Mariners’ Museum and Park, everything in here has a story to tell,” said Kara King, Creative Director of the family-run distillery. “For the design, we took a unique approach with references from the grand Warwick Hotel that once stood across the street and added touches of femininity so all those whiskey-loving women will feel welcome, too.”
The Tasting Room will feature a seasonal cocktail menu, concocted by local mixologist Robert Gregory. Plus, clear ice for those who take “on the rocks” seriously, crafted by Matt Jones, owner of Chisel & Shaker in Newport News. After the grand opening, The Tasting Room will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon until 6pm.
Ironclad Distillery Co. recently successfully raised its maximum goal of $450,008 from 599 investors in an online equity crowdfunding campaign. The capital raised funded the $100,000 renovation of its Tasting Room space, as well as new distilling equipment that will allow for the expansion of its production capacity. The distillery has been in operation at its downtown Newport News location since 2015.
