Peaberry Coffeehouse: The Newest Coffee Shop in Church Hill

There’s a brand new coffee shop in Church Hill, and I think it’s worth a visit. Peaberry Coffeehouse opened recently at the corner of N 32nd Street and Q Street, on the north end of the neighborhood, and it fills a real gap for anyone who lives or works on that side of Church Hill.

I stopped in when it first opened to check it out, and I left wanting to come back.

The Vibe

Peaberry is small, but in a good way. The space is thoughtfully put together, and the staff was genuinely friendly when I walked in. It’s not a giant cafe with rows of tables and outlets, so I wouldn’t necessarily plan to spend four hours working from there, but for a quick coffee break or a casual catch-up with a friend, it’s perfect.

If you’ve been to other coffee shops in Church Hill, you know most of them are concentrated closer to Broad Street. Peaberry is a bit farther north, which makes it really convenient for the neighborhood up by Oakwood.

What I Ordered

I asked the barista for a recommendation, and she pointed me toward the banana bread latte. I’m always happy to take a barista’s pick, and this one did not disappoint. It was perfectly sweet without crossing into dessert-drink territory, and the banana flavor came through clearly without tasting artificial. I got mine hot, but it’s available iced too if you want to go that route. There were a few baked goods on display when I visited as well, so if you’re looking for a little something to go with your coffee, you’ve got options, but there isn’t a huge food menu.

Peaberry Coffeehouse is at 1301 N 32nd Street, Richmond VA 23223. They’re currently open:

Monday through Friday: 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

The early weekday opening makes it a great option if you’re heading to work and want to grab a coffee on your way.

My Take

Peaberry is a cute coffee shop. It’s not huge, but if you live or work on the north side of Church Hill, it fills a real gap in the neighborhood. The coffee is good, the staff are kind, and the space feels welcoming. I’ll definitely be back.
