6 Bears & a Goat Brewing Co.’s Mae West Blonde Ale has earned a gold medal in the 2018
Virginia Craft Beer Cup competition. The Virginia Craft Brewers Guild (VCBG) announced the
award for the Fredericksburg area brewery Monday during the group’s annual meeting in
Richmond.

More than 100 breweries from across Virginia competed in the contest put on by the VCBG, which advocates for the Commonwealth’s burgeoning craft beer industry. There were 26
categories judged by BJCP judges. All 26 gold medal winning beers then competed for the Virginia Craft Beer Cup Best-of-Show winner.

“The judges’ acclaim for Mae West confirms what 6 Bears & a Goat customers already know,” said Mark Faller, CEO of the veteran-owned 6B&G brewery off U.S. 17 in southern Stafford
County. “This easy-drinking ale is our top seller in distribution and at the brew house. You could almost say it’s a people’s choice award too. We’re honored to have received the VCBG medal. I commend head brewer Chuck Arnold and brewer Thomas Faller for their commitment to quality and consistency.”

The VCBG medal comes on the heels of news that voters in The Free Lance-Star/Fredericksburg.com’s Best of the ’Burg online poll selected 6 Bears & a Goat the “Best Local Brewery” for 2018. On May 18, 6B&G was named the top among 11 breweries in the region. More than 22,000 readers cast 170,000 online votes for the best of the best in a wide range of categories.

“It’s an impressive outpouring of support for our brewery, which opened in January 2017,” Faller said. “We’re grateful for each and every customer who voted for us.” 6B&G operates
a 15-barrel brew house at 1140 International Parkway just north of Fredericksburg and distributes its beer to some 90 restaurants and retailers in the region through Virginia Eagle
Distributing Co. The 6B&G brew house features a bar with 21 taps, a dining room that seats 112 people, an event space that seats 44, and a full-service restaurant. The menu features pit-cooked beef, pork and chicken wings as well as salads. It’s worth the trip (two miles west of Interstate 95 Exit 133) to the brewery that offers outdoor seating in a beautifully landscaped setting. 6B&G is family and dog friendly. The brewery has hosted numerous events, including two weddings.

Combining great beer and food in a brewpub setting also made 6B&G a finalist for “Best Happy Hour” in the Best of the ’Burg voting. The results of the online poll were published in
The Free Lance-Star’s Discover magazine. The information is available online at: Fredericksburg.com.

6 Bears & a Goat Brewing Co., LLC is named after the mascots of the founders’ service branches. The six Bears are 20-year retirees from the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Goat is a
retiree from the U.S. Navy. Collectively, the partners have served our country for over 140 years. “While we’re serious about brewing beer, we have fun doing it. Our name is indicative of that as well as the good-natured rivalry between the Navy and our nation’s oldest continuous seagoing service, the Coast Guard,” Faller said. “Oh, did we mention our head brewer is a
retired Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant?”

6B&G believes that responsible consumption of beer in moderation in a positive and inviting social environment will enrich the lives of others and the community. All our recipes have been developed by our head brewer and offer a distinguishable, but subtle enhancement to stay true to style, all the while enriching the customer with “simply better brew.”
