January Foodie Activities

January is the start of a new year and what better way to ring in 2019 than learning some new skills with cooking classes? This month is full of workshops and demos to add some new skills to your foodie arsenal, as well as some fun events to enjoy the act of simply eating and drinking.

• Pie Preparation Workshop – January 8 (Fredericksburg)
  Join in an evening of pie-making-fun at Spencer Devon Brewing. Learn how to prepare an apple pie from start to finish and leave with it ready to bake in the comfort of your own home. 

• Virginia Fly Fishing & Wine Festival – January 12-13 (Doswell)
  This unique event combines fine wine tasting, microbrewery beer, specialty foods and everything you ever wanted to know about fly fishing.

• Newport News Restaurant Week – January 12-26 (Newport News)
  This two-week event is a time for participating restaurants across the city to offer a two- or three-course meal from a set menu for a fixed price.

• Virginia Farm Show – January 16-18 (Fisherville)
  The Virginia Farm Show is the only agricultural trade show in Virginia that caters to full-time as well as the part-time farmer, including different exhibits and shows.

• Wine + Dine at Taubman Museum of Art – January 18 (Roanoke)
  Enjoy an evening to remember with inspiring artwork, delicious cuisine and distinctive wines.

• 4th Annual Nomarama X VA Growler Slider Competition – January 19 (Norfolk)
  The 4th Annual Slider Competition is coming to Norfolk. Try over eight burgers from different competitors from the 757 and beyond.

  This local fest will be featuring local beer and spirits, local food vendors, local bands, and local artists.

• Frosty Brew Thru – January 26 (Fredericksburg)
  The Frosty Brew Thru is an exclusive craft beer cider and wine tasting event featuring brews from all over the country as well as local cideries, distilleries and wineries.

• Bull Run Hunt Wild Game Dinner – January 26 (Mitchells)
  This wild game dinner is an annual event put on The Bull Run Hunt featuring unique and unusual wild game dishes.

• Wine Sensory Class – January 26 (Stafford)
  This educational wine class will take the mystery out of wine tasting, with a fun and interactive way to develope your ability to identify aromas and flavors in wine. 

• Chili Cook-Off – January 26 (Lorton)
  The 8th annual Simple Changes Chili Cook-Off will be held at Fair Winds Brewing Company featuring local brews and chili tastings.

• International Wine Festival – January 27th (Roanoke)
  Sample more than 30 wines from around the world (along with a few craft brews!) while you enjoy live music and expertly paired hors d’oeuvres and desserts.

• Wood-fired Pizza Cooking Class – January 30th (North Garden)
  Heat up the kitchen with homemade pizza this winter! Start this signature cooking class by gathering around Pippin Hill’s wood-burning oven and learning how to make your own pizza dough.
