The Must-Visit Bakery in Williamsburg, VA

When I was in Williamsburg last spring, I hit up The Bake Shop for breakfast before leaving town. I had a good feeling about it since it’s the sister restaurant of The Amber Ox Public House, one of my other Williamsburg favorites. This bakery and coffee shop is popular, so be prepared to wait a few minutes if you go during prime time. It’s a to-go only spot but they do have a few tables out front if the weather is nice!

What We Ordered

My friend Annie and I stopped in on a Saturday morning and ordered both sweet and savory so we could “taste test.” For research. Obviously.

Here’s what made it into our haul:

Black Garlic & Sea Salt Bagel
I’m already a sucker for a sea salt bagel, but the black garlic adds this deep, savory flavor that pairs perfectly with a smear of plain cream cheese. Simple but absolutely delicious.

Spicy Triple Onion Bagel
I braced myself thinking this might be a full-on onion takeover… but the flavor was surprisingly balanced. It’s savory, toasty, and just the right amount of bold — a great pick if you like a little kick.

Dark Chocolate Brownie
Rich, fudgy, and impossible to ignore. I took a few (okay… several) breakfast bites, then saved the rest for a late-night treat. Zero regrets.

Caramel Pecan Sticky Bun
Even as someone who isn’t usually a caramel fanatic, I had to try one of their famous sticky buns — and wow. Soft, gooey, nutty, and absolutely worth the hype. This bun alone could justify the drive.

We also grabbed a basic drip coffee and an americano to round things out. Between the bagels, sweets, and caffeine, it was the perfect weekend spread.

Expect a bit of a line on Saturday mornings, but trust me, it moves quickly, and it’s absolutely worth the wait. It has that charming neighborhood-bakery feel, warm, welcoming, and buzzing with locals picking up their weekend favorites. It’s only about a 10-minute walk from Merchant’s Square, so it’s a great spot to grab a cup of coffee and a treat before walking around the local shops!

This is definitely going to be a must-stop every time I find myself back in Williamsburg! For more of my favorites, check out this list of the best places to grab coffee in Williamsburg!
