Memi’s Egyptian Restaurant Review
Over the weekend, we checked out Memi’s, the new Egyptian concept that recently opened in the space formerly occupied by Barrio. It’s the same owner but with a completely different menu, bringing a fresh take on Egyptian cuisine to RVA. And let me just say—this is a spot you’ll want to add to your list.

The Vibe
Memi’s has a cute, cozy space with a menu full of unique dishes you won’t find in many other spots around Richmond. It’s always exciting to see a restaurant bring something different to the food scene here, and Memi’s does just that.

What We Ordered
- Foul Medames – This creamy dip had a surprisingly sour flavor, which caught me off guard since I’d never had it before. It was served with fresh pita (not pita chips), which I really liked, but next time I think I’d go for the hummus instead!
- Falafel Sandwich – The falafel here is fantastic. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavor. I’d definitely order this again! The fries were just okay, but the falafel itself made this dish totally worth it.
- Fiteer – Think of this as an Egyptian pizza, but with a flaky, pastry-like crust stuffed with cheese and vegetables. It was a huge portion—definitely something to share! We ended up taking half of it home, and honestly, it was even better reheated in the air fryer the next day.
- Zalabia Doughnuts – These reminded me of funnel cake, with a crispy outside, soft inside, and a dusting of powdered sugar. They were pretty sweet but fun to share with the table!
What’s Next?
They also opened a cocktail bar upstairs, and I’m already looking forward to checking it. If the food is any indication, I have a feeling the drinks are going to be just as good!
